Byron completely overhauled his diet and learned how to lift weights in just 15 weeks to give him back energy, fitness and perfect health
The 34-year-old doctor had neglected his health and fitness due to work commitments, but a diagnosis of borderline high cholesterol gave him the final push he needed to make a change.
With the help of his trainer at U.P. Byron was able to lose 8kg (17lbs), get his health and cholesterol back into the green, and even gain six-pack abs.
He now feels fitter than ever and is living proof that you’re never too busy to exercise.
In this Q&A with one of our expert trainers, Byron talks about the importance of motivation and discipline needed to achieve his goals…

What were your main reasons for joining U.P.?
Over the past few years, because of work commitments, I’ve realised that I have been neglecting my health. Over time, my weight gradually increased, and I found I didn’t like how my body looked anymore. During a recent health screening, I was diagnosed with borderline high cholesterol and that gave me the ultimate push to decide to do something about my health.
How did you find the intensity of the training program?
I’ve had previous injuries from weightlifting in the past, so I was a little concerned at first about injuring myself further. I had an existing shoulder injury as well as a back injury so when I first joined U.P. my main priority was to ensure that the training program would be safe. My trainer took my concerns very seriously and adjusted the program to fit my needs, ensuring it was safe for me to train while still achieving the results I wanted. I found the training sessions difficult at first, but with the motivation and support from my trainer, I was able to push through and train pain-free and injury-free.

That’s great. Were there any other challenges you faced?
The other challenge I faced was managing my diet. I had to stick to a calorie deficit during this phase of my training which was difficult for me at times, particularly when I was attending social events, but my trainer was always there to support me and keep me on track with the right food choices.
Are you happy with your results?
I’m very happy that I was able to train pain-free and injury-free as that was my main concern when I first joined. I’ve also managed to surpass my expectations and lift heavier weights than ever before, as well as complete my training program without any issues. I’ve lost weight and my body fat percentage has decreased too, thanks to both the training and the diet. Having seen my transformation, some of my friends and family have also felt inspired to change their diet and lifestyle, which has been very encouraging.
What benefits have you enjoyed from the program?
Just everything is easier now. The physical changes are just the tip of the iceberg. More importantly, I’ve got more energy, my concentration is better, I have better well-being, and my overall fitness is the best it’s been in years. I don’t think I’ve been this fit since I did National Service.

How helpful was your trainer throughout the program?
My trainer Zeki and I worked very well together. He understood what I wanted and what I needed from this journey. He gave me great motivation and encouragement to not only complete the exercises during training but also to stay accountable for my diet. I found it great that he was able to adjust the training program to account for my injuries. One thing he liked to say that will stay with me is that motivation gets you started but discipline is what gets you to the finish line – and he is completely right.
What advice would you give someone who is considering joining U.P.?
Nothing is worth investing in more than yourself, so if you are considering joining U.P. to improve your health, well-being and overall fitness, and to lose weight then I would say go for it.
