Jack feels like he’s got the energy every day to run a marathon thanks to his 13-week transformation.
The 28-year-old had been out of shape physically for a while. He was waking up tired every morning and struggling to get through the workday without an ‘afternoon crash’ that left him with little energy.

In this Q&A with one of our expert trainers, Jack talks about committing to a major lifestyle change and how his old habits have changed forever…

What made you decide to join U.P?
I recently moved to Los Angeles from Chicago, and I was looking for a personal training gym experience. My roommate had trained at Ultimate Performance for two months and he saw really good results that carried on even after training. So he was the one who recommended U.P. and he told me I would never regret the decision, and sitting here today, I haven’t!
You’ve lost 10kg (22lbs) in three months. Did you think at the start that this would be possible?
When I first saw the transformation pictures on the wall, I started laughing. I did not think they were possible – some people on there had gone from high body fat percentages to having six-packs in just 10 weeks. It’s crazy now to think I’m sitting here 13 weeks later with abs, and I probably could have got there sooner without a few bachelor parties. I would have never thought these results were possible, but I am living proof that they are.
It’s definitely achievable, as you’ve shown. Could you talk a bit about your physical and mental health before starting U.P.?
Before I started training with U.P., I thought I was in decent shape. I knew there was always room for improvement and a lot I could improve physically. Looking back, I was definitely out of shape and had low motivation to go to the gym. Mentally, I was waking up tired and would get the classic afternoon crash, and I knew that something needed to change. On the recommendation of my roommate, U.P. was definitely the place to do it.

What were the most important things you learned during your journey and what really worked for you in helping you make your transformation happen?
I would say the one thing that I’m really proud of was my self-discipline. Just moving here from Chicago and living with four other roommates, it was very hard saying no to going out to eat or going to parties and drinking all the time. I think ultimately the one thing I found that I really enjoyed was cooking, and that was something I did not do before coming to Ultimate Performance. I was ordering food in daily before. Now, cooking food is sort of a new hobby of mine and I wouldn’t have tried it if it hadn’t been for Ultimate Performance. I have definitely enjoyed cooking and I’m very excited to continue cooking from scratch.
That’s amazing. In addition to your cooking skills, how would you say your time with U.P. and with your trainer has affected your health, lifestyle and energy both inside and outside the gym?
I saw my energy change after just one week. It was almost as if I took a magic pill and woke up and felt like there was nothing wrong in my head or body at work. I noticed I would have an immense amount of energy throughout the afternoon and the rest of the day. The biggest change I noticed was waking up and having energy and being excited to wake up for the day and get started. That was definitely the biggest change from before. Physically, I feel like I could go run a marathon if I wanted to. I’ve never felt healthier in my life, and it’s propelled me into having good habits outside of the gym too, whether that’s with work, family and friends or just in my own lifestyle and personal goals. And I definitely wouldn’t be there without Ultimate Performance.

Lastly, Jack, would you recommend U.P. and why?
I would absolutely recommend Ultimate Performance. Like I said, my roommate recommended it to me, and I could not be happier with my results, even though I’m not done yet. But I would definitely recommend this to anyone. If you’re looking for someone who’s going to be there 24/7 (and I mean 24/7 along your journey) there’s no other place to come. Your trainer is always there, whether you have questions about food or training, if you’re on vacation and you’re going out to dinner and you’re not quite sure what to eat. They respond right away.
Honestly, it’s very motivating having someone by your side and keeping you in tune and checking in on you every single day.
