So, John, what would you say motivated you to start personal training with Ultimate Performance?

I had seen some examples of other people having a good experience with the training at Ultimate Performance. My children were teasing me about how my body was becoming a “dad bod” on holiday, so I thought, yeah, I need to do something about this. I was getting lulls throughout the day and felt very sluggish. I noticed I’d become quite lazy which was unlike me because I’d previously played a lot of sport.

 

What kind of sport were you playing?

I used to play tennis at quite a high level and semi-professional football back in my younger days. I had tried to revisit that, but I would often pick up injuries, so that was another reason why I wanted to focus on getting in shape.

 

Tell us about your diet before you started working with your trainer.

My eating habits were a bit haphazard before I started training here. I would often eat what my children ate and wasn’t very up to speed with nutrition. It’s also clear to me now that I ate too much.

Now that you’ve lost almost 14kg, how much better do you feel both mentally and physically?

I have much more energy. I don’t have troughs in the day where I feel fatigued or sluggish. My days feel much longer and more active and I’m definitely stronger within myself. I think the main improvement is the confidence I have in my body. I didn’t foresee that was possible at the beginning, but I’ve brought the best out of myself. It’s been a pleasant surprise at this age.

 

Had you ever tried weight training in the past?

I’d never lifted weights before, but I honestly loved it. I have embraced resistance training and enjoyed the process. I found a good rhythm and I’m now so much more knowledgeable about both weight training and nutrition. I’m aware of how I’m fuelling my body with food which has translated to more energy throughout the day as I mentioned before.

 

You said you struggled to play the sport you loved because you struggled with injuries and fitness. Has that changed now?

Yeah, I’ve been able to start playing the sports I love again. I’ve even introduced boxing into my routine. My trainer has been incredibly impressed with how I’m performing. My stamina and conditioning have improved so much. As I said, it’s been a nice surprise that I can compete at such a high level at my age.

How impressed have you been with your results? Did you ever think you’d look how you do now?

I’ve been incredibly impressed. I thought 10% body fat was something only supreme athletes could achieve. I never really envisioned myself getting there. Other people have been very praiseworthy and complimentary about my body, which has been great. I didn’t expect to go as far as I did, but the motivation from my trainer took me there which I’m thrilled about.

 

What would you say to people who are doubtful they can get results like this?

I was also sceptical. I didn’t think I could get these results, but you can do it with the right determination and support. I wasn’t sure at all, but as the weeks went on, I started to see incredible results which was the best motivation.
