Sam has left his close friends and colleagues lost for words after losing over 29kg (58lbs) of weight.
He’s now in the best shape of his life heading towards 40… and everyone’s asking how he did it.
But, while the physical changes have been profound, that’s not what has satisfied Sam most.
He’s more pleased with his noticeable confidence, healthy relationship with food, and the fact he’s now an exemplary role model for his two young children.
Here, Sam breaks down his training program and explains why U.P. was worth every single penny…

Sam, can you just explain how Ultimate Performance has changed your life?
U.P. has changed my life because it has allowed me to achieve a goal that I had dreamed of but knew was hard to obtain. I wouldn’t have reached where I am today without my trainer.
I would have probably stopped around the halfway point of this journey. The training has been consistent and measurable, and crucially, I can sustain it in the future. I can continue living this way while I’m out traveling with work and around my family.
You said your family and friends were stunned by your transformation! How have they reacted to what you’ve achieved?
Most of my friends, family, and colleagues have noticed big changes. Particularly when you jump on a video call with clients who you haven’t seen for a few months.
I was in Asia last week with colleagues that I hadn’t seen for six months. It was a big shock for them! They were asking how I got in such good shape. The journey has been incredibly transformative in terms of how people perceive me. But the part that some friends and family have noticed is my fitness levels.
I used to run with my friends, but it was always me who would struggle. I’m now very fit and it’s often them who struggle to keep up with me!
That’s given me a real feel-good factor.

How much happier are you with the state of your health now?
The health benefits throughout the journey have been tremendous. I now have a great appreciation for food. I see food as a budget, similar to how I see the salary I earn each month and how I’m going to spend it. I know what I have to spend each day and each week. I can think about how I construct what I want to get out of food.
I love eating out and tasting new experiences, but now, having a greater appreciation of what goes into food has been a real eye-opener for me. The workouts have also been eye-opening. I can fit it into my routine without compromise.
I make sure to prioritise exercise and I haven’t seen a deterioration in what I do in my family life or at work. Training fits into my diary really neatly.
What kind of impact has this transformation had on your two young kids?
The entire journey has been very positive in terms of its impact on my family. It’s been great to talk to my kids about the journey I’m on. Initially, they understood it as a weight management journey, but now they see it as a health journey.
We talk a lot about foods at home, especially with my kids, who are quite fussy eaters. We discuss how different foods give you different strengths. My son likes this because he thinks about superhero traits. It’s been fun to bring this into our home life.
In terms of exercising, my kids both love it. They enjoy cycling, running, and playing football, so we’re doing a lot more of that and explaining why it’s important to have exercise in your life. I can now be more of a role model to my kids.
Before, it was about trying to impress upon them to be active without actually exercising myself. Now, we can do it together.
What would you say to people who are skeptical about the results at Ultimate Performance?
I would say that you can achieve the results you want. I’ve achieved the results I wanted, but you need to understand that you don’t just get there by signing up and paying your money. You have to put in the effort.
What I’ve learned is that the process is measurable. You can see the visual changes when your trainer takes your photos and measurements every week. It’s easy to see the progress. It’s also been great to see the transformations of others around me in the gym.
Everyone is at a different stage, with a different starting point and angle, but everyone is working hard to achieve their goals. That’s something you don’t see from looking at pictures or reading reviews.

Your before and after photos look incredible, but are there any other tangible benefits you’ve felt aside from the aesthetic changes?
I definitely have a greater appreciation of food and a deeper understanding of what I need to eat to fuel my body. There’s also an aerobic benefit. My fitness and sports performance have improved massively. My recovery rate and all those attributes are great for work and other physical activities outside of the gym. It’s been fantastic.
Then there’s the confidence aspect. I feel more in control. I feel confident about my appearance but I’m also confident that I’m in control of my habits. I understand the consequences of loosening up and I know exactly how to dial it back in.
One final question Sam. Obviously, personal training at U.P. isn’t cheap, but from a financial point of view, would you say you returned your investment?
From a financial standpoint, I would say yes. It was an investment I was willing to make, knowing what I wanted to achieve. I felt comfortable investing in Ultimate Performance because of the high level of accountability and expertise.
It’s not just the dedicated trainer, which having done personal training before, I can say is excellent. But it’s the focus on form, activity levels, accountability, and guidance that is so important. My trainer constantly tweaked and tailored my program to ensure I was always on the right track, both inside and outside of the gym. That level of accountability has been crucial for me.
Yes, it’s expensive, but I achieved my goals and I see this as a significant investment in my health. Health is invaluable, so it’s been worth every penny. It’s been a fantastic journey and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.
In many ways, I wish I could continue indefinitely, but I set out to achieve my goal, and now I’m ready to move forward.
